In the last post from the Adventures Abroad Chile tour we travelled to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Valparaiso where we had a great walking tour followed by a great seafood meal in Vina de Mar. On the way there and back from Santiago we passed by a number of wineries in the Casablanca Valley that lies between the Andes and the coastal range. In this post we’ll visit one of Chile’s oldest and most famous wineries, Vina Santa Rita for a tasting of the wines that have made Chile the top wine producer in Latin America. In my last post from Southeast Asia, our group concluded our visit to Vietnam by visiting the Mekong Delta where we spent a day exploring this watery wonderland. However, this epic journey through three countries with Adventures Abroad has not come to an end as we will now head to Cambodia for the final five days of the tour. The main attraction in Cambodia is of course the temple complexes around the city of Siem Reap, most notably Angkor Wat and that's where the trip will end. However, the city of Phnom Penh, once known as 'The Pearl of Asia', is the starting point for most visits to Cambodia. Unfortunately, it is more well known today for its role in the infamous Killing Fields than for its beautiful location on the Mekong River, the charms of its temples and the treasures of its museums. Yes, we will visit the Killing Fields, but in this post, I'll concentrate on the brighter side of Phnom Penh, because that's really more a reflection of the city today than what happened here fifty years ago.

This is my ninth and final post from our 2023 trip to Vietnam with Adventures Abroad. In the last post, our group toured Saigon and found out that the entrepreneurial spirit there marks it as quite different from Hanoi. In this last post, we'll head down to the Mekong Delta where the majority of Vietnam's rice is grown and most of its fish is either wild-caught or farm raised. It is an area that is under siege from rising ocean levels that threaten to drown much of it over the next fifty years. It is also the home of one of the most unique religions in the world and that's where we'll start our visit.

In the first one, I gave an overview of Chile and why going with Adventures Abroad was my preferred way to see this amazing country from top to bottom with Easter Island as a once-in-a-lifetime finale. In this post, we are going to head out from Santiago for the day to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Valparaiso, mostly on foot and then conclude with a great seafood dinner in the upscale sister city of Viña del Mar. Valparaiso is a city that has long been on my bucket list so please join us as we start our exploration of Chile in earnest.

In the last post, we wrapped up our time in central Vietnam by visiting the fascinating city of Hue and now it's time to head to the south of the country for our final few days of this wonderful Adventures Abroad tour. Accordingly, we take the 90-minute flight from Hue to Ho Chi Minh City which I soon learn from our local guide is a name that no one who actually lives here uses. To the South Vietnamese, it is and always will be Saigon and that's how I'll refer to it in this post. So please join me in exploring just a little of this greatest of all Vietnamese cities.
