Seasonality and Weather
We have scheduled 2 departures for this trip, both of which can be considered "shoulder season" in terms of local costs and crowds that one can expect at certain popular locales. May is late fall or early winter, though these terms mean something a little bit different than they do in North America. At this time of year, conditions are drying and becoming cooler in the north and in Kruger Park - excellent conditions for game viewing. As one moves farther south, once can expect cooler conditions with a chance of showers. That said, one can still have warm, spectacular days with lots of sun and even beautiful autumn colour in the Cape. Our September trip coincides with early "spring," with mild temperatures in the north, dry conditions in Kruger, and lots of wildflowers south to the Cape.
Transport and Travel Conditions
Our transport is provided by "luxury" coach with air conditioning / heating and plenty of space. Roads are excellent throughout, though you must be prepared for some long days and early starts. That said, we plan plenty of stops for photos (our journeys are spectacular) and refreshment. There are no internal flights.
All hotels are rated 3-star, with the exception of East London which is a 4. All properties are clean, comfortable, well-located, air-conditioned / heated, with modern conveniences and en-suite bath facilities. Some hotels have swimming pools; most have restaurants and bars. Most provide porters to assist with luggage.
