Description
This tour was developed by, and will be led by, senior Tour Leader Martin Charlton, who invites you to join him on this very special journey.

"Join me on this hand-crafted flying safari that will be the trip of a lifetime - accessing some world-class wilderness and exquisite safari camps in some of the best locations that East Africa has to offer.

This is a luxury safari offering the "Best of the Best" in Kenya and Tanzania. There is nowhere like it on earth, and the use of scheduled flights will allow us to fly non-stop between the highlights of the region, and thus giving us more time to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells on the ground (and eliminating most of the long, dusty and bumpy drives).

We know that a flying safari is all about the wildlife, but we want your downtime to be remarkable as well. This adventure will take you to some truly unique and quintessential eco-friendly boutique safari camps in East Africa's most famous parks. You may have already seen the visual feast of East Africa from the ground. But wait until you are soaring above Kenya and Tanzania and witness the bursts of colour as they rise from the golden savannas, green woodlands, sunlit rivers and lakes. Our flights will deliver us directly into the soul-stirring wilderness, with not a minute wasted - delivering maximum variety and adventure in high style, with high efficiency. More time can be spent tracking wildlife on foot, learning bird calls, searching for the Big Five and enjoying a cool drink as the sun sinks below the horizon.

Kenya is the Africa of your imagination. This is planet earth on an epic scale, where the landscapes are raw and untouched, welcoming you to witness some of the best game viewing on Earth. Home of the original East African safari, Kenya beckons with iconic wildlife and fascinating cultures. Fulfill your wildest safari fantasy on this unrivalled Kenyan safari. Northern Tanzania is wilderness on a mind-blowing scale: big skies, big herds, big mountains, and the ‘Big Five’. This is where you’ll find the country’s finest safari spots and most striking terrain. Northern Tanzania is home to the continent’s highest mountain, the planet’s largest intact caldera, unfathomable numbers of animals, vast golden plains and truly enormous skies. Wilderness here goes on forever!

This flying safari will allow us to maximize our time in East Africa’s safari parks. We will be able to transfer quickly between destinations and thus saving time on transport and gaining time to enjoy where we are. Apart from the comfortable and quick transfer between one point and another, flying between far-flung locations will allow for some spectacular views of East Africa’s wildlife and landscapes that cannot be seen on the ground.

Watch huge elephant herds in the shadow of Kilimanjaro’s iconic snow-capped peak, immerse yourself in Loisaba’s wildlife-rich hills, fly into the matchless Masai Mara, traverse the endless plains of the spellbinding Serengeti, and marvel at ancient volcanic craters. From our luxury tented camps in the heart of the wilderness, witness the many wonders of East Africa on this truly breathtaking adventure."

Trip Info
  • Seasonality and Weather:
This tour is offered in at a time when seasons shift from the dry season to the wet season. Game viewing is typically excellent due to short grass and animals congregating around water sources. The transition from October to November typically welcomes the arrival of "short rains". Into November and December the landscape start to turn green and showers come in the form of quick and brief showers late in the day and rarely interfere with activities or travel.

Most travellers are keen on witnessing the annual ‘Great Migration’ of wildebeest and zebra in the Serengeti and/or Maasai Mara. The Great Migration is the ever-moving circular migration of over a million animals across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. The constant movement of columns of wildebeest, joined by a host of companions, follow an age-old route in search of grazing and water. The circuit takes the animals from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (although not into the Crater itself) in the south of the Serengeti in Tanzania, up through the Serengeti and across into the Masai Mara in Kenya and back again.
Unfortunately, there is no neat and tidy answer re when is the best time to possibly witness the spectacle as it doesn’t have a simple start or end, just a dynamic cycle of wild movement through the year. Nor is it the same each year either as the migration is largely driven by the unpredictable rains, which means that wildebeest migration doesn’t operate on a set schedule. It also doesn’t follow a set route, nor do the animals all go the same way.

By September to October, the main chaos has ended and the migrating columns have gradually moved eastward in the Masai Mara. However, the wildebeest will face the heavy waters of the Mara River once more as they prepare to cross once again for their return journey southward. After the East African short rains commence in late October and early November, the wildebeest move down from Kenya and into the eastern limits of the Serengeti. As one moves into December through early March, the herds are mainly found in the Serengeti in Southern Tanzania.
  • Transport and Travel Conditions:

Travelling by air from one spot to the next on this itinerary has enabled us to eliminate most of the long, very rough, and dusty road journeys. Aircraft type/size can vary depending on demand, but they are typically modern twin or quad turb-prop models (ie Dash 7/8 or ATR 72 etc) with seating ranging from 30-60.

Throughout the safari our main mode of land transport will be in fully-customized and specially fitted 4x4 Land Rover/Land Cruiser style vehicles. Some are open sided and others have roofs that pop up.

Please note that air-conditioned safari vehicles are non-existent in East Africa.

Boutique lodges, camps and hotels known for their unique accommodation in iconic locations across Kenya and Tanzania. Properties selected for this safari will offer authentic and memorable safari experiences, providing the highest quality of luxury and comfort as well as warm and genuine East African hospitality. Properties are typically of a 5-star standard with hot water, electricity, mosquito netting (when required), dining areas, bars, swimming pools. The architectural nature and style of these remote luxury lodges and camps typically does not allow for air-conditioning, though most often this is something not required (and many are situated at higher elevations where heat is not a factor).

Please Contact Us for future dates

  • 01:
Can Adventures Abroad book my flights?
Yes! We have full-service in-house air department with years of experience booking our passengers to far-flung places around the world from any place that has an airport. Travelling from Los Angeles to Rome? No problem. Travelling from Deer Lake, Newfoundland to Antananarivo? Also not a problem!

    • 01:
Can Adventures Abroad get better deals than I can online?
Here’s the clear answer: Usually, no.

Booking your flights with us is super convenient—it’s like one-stop shopping! Plus, we’ll take care of you if something goes wrong, like a canceled flight or missed connection. We include airport transfers at your destination when you book flights through us. Some routes to less common destinations can be hard to find on your own or through online search engines. Which usually only show popular routes. Let us make it easy for you!
    • 02:
Why should I book my flights with Adventures Abroad?
      • Included airport transfers: Enjoy a smoother trip with airport transfers provided when you book flights with us.
      • Peace of mind: Feel confident knowing we’ve got you covered during your trip.
      • Help with disruptions: If your travel plans change, we assist with rebooking flights and updating our partners and staff at your destination.
      • Avoid stress and confusion: Booking with us means you won’t have to deal directly with airlines or ticket sellers if issues arise.
  • 02:
Does the group fly together on a set route and airline?
Unlike with some companies, you are not obliged to fly with a particular airline on "bulk" group flights. Because our travellers are coming from (usually) across North America, everyone who flies with us receives a custom air quotation that best serves their situation and preferences—we do not have "set" routings on only a limited number of airlines.

While fare and convenience are always at the top of the list of criteria, we can work with you to find the option that suits you best.
  • 03:
When should my flights be quoted / booked?
Everyone wants to know their flight details early. To get the best fares and routes, book your tour and pay your deposit as soon as possible. This helps us confirm the tour early. Booking 8-12 months ahead takes some trust, but it’s the best way to plan with so many factors involved. We can’t always provide exact flight costs more than 6 months out or before the tour is confirmed. But we almost always find a solution that works for our travellers.

If you are booking more than one person with different addresses and separate billing, please book each person individually.

7 or more travellers - Please contact us to book.

Frequently Asked Questions

  •
What is the maximum number of participants on a trip?
Most of our tours carry a maximum of 18 participants; some tours (ie hiking tours) top out at 16. In the event that we do not achieve our minimum complement by our 90-day deadline, we may offer group members the option of paying a "small-group surcharge" as an alternative to cancellation. If all group members agree, we will confirm the trip at existing numbers; this surcharge is refundable in the event that we ultimately achieve our regular minimum. If the small group surcharge is not accepted, we will offer a refund of your deposit or a different trip of your choice.
  •
Can I extend my tour either at the beginning or end? What about stopovers?
Yes, you can extend your tour either at the beginning or the end and we can book accommodation in our tour hotel. Stopovers are often permitted, depending on air routing. Stopovers usually carry a "stopover" fee levied by the airline.
  •
How do I make a reservation? How and when do I pay?
The easiest way to make a reservation is via our website; during office hours, you are also more than welcome to contact us by telephone.

A non-refundable deposit is payable at the time of booking; if a reservation is made within 90 days, full payment is required. Some trips require a larger deposit. If international airline bookings require a non-refundable payment in order to secure space or the lowest available fare, we will require an increase in deposit equal to the cost of the ticket(s).

Early enrolment is always encouraged as group size is limited and some trips require greater preparation time.

Once we have received your deposit, we will confirm your space and send you a confirmation package containing your trip itinerary, any visa/travel permit related documents, invoice, clothing and equipment recommendations, general information on your destination(s), and forms for you to complete, sign and return to us. Your air e-tickets (if applicable), final hotel list, final trip itinerary, and instructions on how to join your tour, will be sent approximately 2-3 weeks prior to departure.
  •
What about cancellations, refunds, and transfers?
Please review our cancellation policy page for details.
  •
I am a single who prefers my own room. What is a single supplement?
All of our tours have a single supplement for those who want to be guaranteed their own room at each location.

This supplement is a reflection of the fact that most hotels around the world do not discount the regular twin-share rate for a room by 50% for only one person occupying a room. Most hotels will give a break on the price, but usually in the range of 25-30% of the twin-share rate. This difference, multiplied by each night, amounts to the single supplement.

The conventional amount can also vary from country to country and some destinations are more expensive than others for single occupancy. In order to be "single friendly," the supplements we apply are not a profit centre for us and we do our best to keep them as reasonable as possible.

On most tours we limit the number of singles available, not to be punitive, but rather because many hotels allow for only a limited number of singles; some smaller hotels at remote locations also have a limited number of single rooms available.

Please note that most single rooms around the world are smaller than twin-share rooms and will likely have only one bed.
  •
Do you have a shared accommodation program?
Yes! If you are single traveller and are willing to share, we will do our best to pair you with a same-gender roommate. Please note that should we fail to pair you, we will absorb the single supplement fee and you will default to a single room at no extra charge.
