About Ethiopia

Regarded as ‘the cradle of humanity’, Ethiopia is an ancient land of once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences. Journey through a landscape of lush highlands, sleepy mountain villages, rock-hewn churches and the beautiful lakes of the Rift Valley. While it might not be regarded as a major safari destination, Ethiopia still delivers plenty of fantastic wildlife watching opportunities. On our small group Ethiopia tours, you’ll also have a chance to learn about the country’s millennia-old history and unique mix of African and Middle Eastern influences. And there’ll also be time to sample its highly underrated cuisine and world-class coffee.

Frequently Asked Questions

  •
Do you need a visa to travel to Ethiopia?
All nationals except, those from Kenya and Djibouti, require a visa to visit Ethiopia. You can gain an e-visa beforehand at www.evisa.gov.et. Alternatively, tourist visas can be obtained upon landing at Bole International Airport. A single-entry 30-day visa is available for $52 while a single-entry 90-day visa is $72.
  •
    Is Ethiopia safe?
Overall, Ethiopia is a very safe destination for travellers and you’re unlikely to encounter any issues. Levels of violent crime are low and extremely rare against tourists. However, you should be wary of thieves and con artists (particularly in Addis Ababa). Remain vigilant in bus terminals and markets, where pickpockets are sometimes known to operate.
  •
When is the best time to visit Ethiopia
Generally, the best time of year to visit Ethiopia is during the dry season between October-May. If you do choose to visit during the rainy season (June-September), you’ll benefit from fewer tourists while getting to see much of the land at its most lush and green. January is usually the busiest month to visit Ethiopia when travellers get to enjoy its most vibrant festivals (including Leddet and Timkat) and generally dry and cool weather.
