Australia
Welcome to Adventures Abroad's Australia Trips page, here you will
find a list of our tours. Australia is the sixth largest country in
the world but has the lowest population density in the world. The
country boasts over 7,000 beaches - more than any other nation.
James Cook discovered Australia - claimed possession for Great
Britain in 1770,
six colonies were created late 18th and 18th country, they federated
and became the Commonwealth of Australia. In recent decades, the
nation has transformed itself into an internationally competitive,
advanced market economy. Enjoy us, Australia awaits!
We have many Australia trips, but our main tour is AU1 Australia; 17
days.
Melbourne boasts broad and leafy streets, plenty of parks and
gardens, and an air of distinction. It is the stateliest of all
Australian cities. It is also a fairly recent creation,
for it was only in 1835 that a Tasmanian farmer named John Batman
arrived to establish
a settlement here. He made a deal with local Aborigines, trading
blankets, knives and tomahawks for 500,000 acres of land, and a
township began to grow. A gold rush in the 1850s resulted in rapid
expansion and, by 1861, Melbourne's population (then 125,000) had
already overtaken Sydney's. Sydney moved ahead again in 1911 and has
stayed ahead, but Melbourne has never been far behind.
Today our tour includes a number of highlights, including Fitzroy
gardens, originally laid out in the shape of the Union Jack. The
prime attraction is Cook's Cottage, the family home of James Cook,
the English navigator who explored the southern hemisphere in three
great voyages. It was purchased in 1933, shipped over from Yorkshire
and presented as a gift to the state of Victoria for its 1934
centenary.
We will also see the Old Melbourne Gaol, Shrine of Remembrance, St
Kilda Road, Victoria Market, Melbourne University, Parliament House,
Lake Albert, and pay a visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral.
After lunch, we will visit the Melbourne Zoo, an excellent
introduction to Australia's many unique mammals, birds and
marsupials.
Many travellers are taken aback by the sheer enormousness of Australia, not fully appreciating that the land Down Under is close to double the size of Europe in terms of landmass. For this reason, our Australia tours are ideal; visitors are able to take in a good portion of this vast country's many attractions--something that otherwise proves difficult under a time restriction--while at the same time are given enough independence to discover the country for themselves. Enjoying worldwide acclaim for its natural environment, Australia is the definitive destination for the outdoorsperson. From the spine-tingling iridescence of the Great Barrier Reef to the towering majesty of Ayres Rock, the natural landscapes in Australia give memories enough to last a lifetime and the diversity of architecture, atmosphere and cultures found in its cities are entirely unique.
