This tour exceeded our expectations and we are very pleased that we were part of it. We were very fortunate to have had not only an excellent tour leader, but also congenial group of fellow travelers and very good weather. The sightseeing venues were well chosen and probably best represented the wealth of historical and cultural sites available for visitation. We particularly enjoyed the walking tours of the medieval towns/cities and the Uffizi gallery in Florence. We were impressed with the quality of the local guides. They were, without exception, highly skilled and knowledgeable. We were very pleased with all of the hotel accommodation. The hotels were clean and comfortable, breakfast was very good and the staff were courteous and helpful.

Everything that was scheduled was very good. But, if pressed, I would say that having time to stay on at the Uffizi Gallery after the wonderful tour with our local guide was a high point of the trip for me. I also, enjoyed the time at the Academia, especially to see Michelangelo's David. I also very much enjoyed the time we had in Tuscany and I enjoyed stopping in Assisi on the way to Siena. What a charming town.Staying two nights in Siena was wonderful. I had time to see that wonderful town and also the side trips to San Gimignano and Volterra were delightful. I have traveled over the years and had different trip leaders on my tours. Many have been good too. But, Ondra (our tour leader) stands out as going the extra mile to make sure the trip goes well. I know I'm in good hands when he is the trip leader. Only the weather is out of his control. And, he is a very kind person with excellent people skills. The evening meals were wonderful! Each evening seemed to be better than the previous evening, if that was possible. Ondra knew the best places in each city or town where we could get the best local/regional food. His knowledge of knowing where we would have good meals was a real asset of his being the trip leader. If I had been in Italy on my own, it would have been more difficult to find the good places, even with all the "social media" input available. The hotels on IT 20 were excellent because they were so well located. And, they were nice hotels too. As for my overall impression of IT20, it was a wonderful trip and my expectations were met and exceeded. The itinerary looked very good and it was. I pinched myself everyday that I was in Italy seeing so many wonderful sights and enjoying wonderful food and wine with a very good trip leader. I savored every day of the trip and now I have wonderful memories that will sustain me as I face life at home. Travel is my passion and the three trips I have taken with Adventures Abroad have all been excellent. I do hope to take other trips offered by Adventures Abroad.

It was interesting to visit the Tuscan hill towns and see the early architecture still intact. The hotels were great and in good locations. All local guides were very knowledgeable about their respective subjects and enthusiastic in imparting their information to us. Buses were comfortable and allowed for plenty of room for our group. Our tour leader chose good restaurants and tried to introduce us to local specialties. His experience with this tour over the years was very valuable in making suggestions for sites to focus on. A good leader adds a tremendous amount to enriching a tour in more ways than just showing the clients the sites.

I enjoyed it all. This tour really did hit all of the highlights I wanted to see when I thought of Italy. The locations were planned well in terms of being able to see a town en route or as a "day trip." The guides were knowledgeable and helpful. The guides we had in Rome and Siena stand out for their wealth of insights in their respective locations. The food was fabulous. Our tour leader was funny, insightful and knowledgeable. He obviously knew the best places to eat or see and gave us plenty of time to explore on our own. He is one of the best AA tour guides we've had. You guys are great. Thank you so much. We refer you to anyone who asks.

We loved our small group and our excellent tour leader. It was a good pace with plenty of free time to explore on our own. All of the sights were amazing. It seemed every door we opened was a new and wonderful place. We had fantastic local guides; it was like we had history professors with us. Our tour leader was very knowledgeable, friendly and basically fun to be with. He was great with any language gaps especially with my wife being Celiac. Everything went according to plans as were set up by our tour leader. He really knew his stuff. We loved that our last hotel was right in the heart of Venice.

We tried to plan a trip to Italy for several years and this tour exceeded our expectations. We never felt rushed yet we covered a lot of the major sites and museums and still had time to do a few of our own things Our tour guide Andrew was amazing and we would highly recommend him and this tour. November turned out to be a wonderful time to go because, although it did rain and was cloudy, the museums and many sites were not crowded at all. Our local guide at the Uffuzi gallery in Florence was amazed that there were so few people. He told us that he had never been in the gallery that holds the Michelangelo painting by himself.. ever! Italy is an amazing country to visit and this tour covers the highlights with a fantastic guide, delicious food and charming hotels, all arranged for you.

Seasonality and Weather
This tour is operated in late fall & winter when rates for accommodation and other tourist services are significantly reduced. It will be chilly, though most of Italy enjoys a relatively mild winter in which extreme cold or snow are rare. Most days will be well above freezing, though showers occur regularly at this time of year.
If one is prepared for the weather one can experience all the magic of Italy at a significant savings and without the bother of huge high-season crowds and heat. Airfares are also lower at these times.
Transport and Travel Conditions
Transport throughout by private motor coach, 24-36 seats depending on ultimate group size (see 'group size'). Though we will have some full bus days, road travel is not particularly arduous as there are plenty of stops of interest and beautiful scenery along the way. Roads are in good condition, though a little winding on some stretches.
Our journey to Venice is via fast train, second class (non-smoking).
This trip is typical of most of our European tours, which are ambitious and involve full days of travel and sightseeing. While we don't have any actual strenuous activity (ie hiking) built into the program, you will do a lot of walking on this trip. These walks will mostly be in the form of walking tours of towns and cities and short walks to dinner. Being Europe, and a hilly/mountainous area, cobbles, uneven surfaces, and slopes/stairs are common. If you are accustomed to typical "bus tours," which rely heavily on vehicular transport for all sightseeing activities, you should be aware that this tour is considerably more active.
Am I suitable for this tour? Please refer to our self-assessment form.
Well-located, heated, mid-range hotels and inns (3-star) used throughout. Some hotels are smaller properties (3-4 story) that may not have elevators. All hotels have en suite bath, though some may have shower only. Porter service is sometimes available (see 'inclusions') though you should be independent with your luggage. Single rooms are limited and likely smaller than twins.
