More About East Africa
East Africa Group Tours by Adventures Abroad: East Africa is a region that offers unparalleled experiences for the traveller. From ancient kingdoms of Ethiopia, to spying the big five in Tanzania, to the unspoiled beaches of the Indian Ocean; there are plenty of options on our East Africa tours.
The region encompasses Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Djibouti, Comoros Islands, Madagascar, Reunion Island, Mauritius, Seychelles, Mayotte, Rwanda, and Uganda. Regions so diverse that for someone on East Africa tours it would be difficult to experience all 12 countries on one continuous trip.
For those searching for experiences with nature, it would be hard to beat witnessing a gorilla family up close in the mountains of Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Rwanda's Parc National des Volcans. Both parks boast a large population of mountain gorillas found deep within the rainforests at higher altitudes on sometimes-steep slopes.
Discovering the "Big Five" (the African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard, and rhinoceros) for the first time is beyond memorable, and each country has ample opportunity to do so.
Kenya's Maasai Mara National Reserve consists of rolling grassland and is located at the northern end of the Serengeti Plain. Considered the best of Kenya's parks, it is on the pathway of the yearly wildebeest migration in which the ground seems to shake as the 1.5 million wildebeest and half a million zebra embark on a single-minded and perilous quest for water and grazing land towards Tanzania's Serengeti National Park.
Elsewhere in Tanzania, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area often called 'eighth wonder of the world' boasts a blend of landscapes, wildlife, people and archaeology unsurpassed in Africa. The volcanoes, grasslands, waterfalls and mountain forests are home to an abundance of animals and to the Maasai.
The culture you'll find on our East Africa tours is as rich and diverse as the landscape. The kaleidoscope of colours in the tribal areas of Ethiopia, mix with the ruins and relics of a once powerful and wealthy kingdom.
Up-and-coming Djibouti is often considered the "Dubai of Africa" with jarring cultural and social combinations of traditionally robed Afar tribesmen, stalwart GIs, sensuous Somali ladies and frazzled businessmen.
Far from just a beach destination, Indian Ocean island nations such as the Seychelles and Mauritius were settled during the height of maritime trade in the Indian Ocean and have a rich history with incredibly scenic backdrops.
Comoros Islands and Mayotte, although in the same region, are among the least visited countries of the world. Reunion Island is an island nation with overwhelming natural beauty and often times nicknamed to the Nepal of the Indian Ocean.
Madagascar, set adrift on its own, is an island nation that has adapted and evolved to have some of the most unique biodiversity in the world. With the possibility to be in a dense rainforest, vast desert and never far from the coast, the most famous residents of the island are perhaps the lemurs, endemic to Madagascar.
Wherever you find yourself on our East Africa tours, there will be plenty to see and many memories to be made.
