More About Tanzania
There is perhaps no other tour destination in the world that can make travellers more aware of their apparent insignificant stature than can Tanzania. Whether dwarfed by the colossal snow-tipped and cloud-enshrouded peaks that rupture the ground to ascend heavenwards in the northeast, entranced by the blue oblivion of one of the Great Lakes while gazing from the lapping shoreline, or watching the swirls of dust from migratory herds on the seemingly endless stretches of plains; our Tanzania safari tours can't help but give the traveller a new perspective.
Tanzania sits on the east coast of Africa, borders eight other African countries and has a magnificent coastline on the Indian Ocean. The nation takes its name from the 1964 union between the mainland territory, Tanganyika, and the Zanzibar islands to the east. Remarkably, this former German colony has largely managed to steer clear of the many domestic and international troubles that have plagued its neighbours.
Tanzania may not be the largest nation in Africa, though it is without doubt one of the most exciting countries in the world. The Serengeti, which is found in the north of Tanzania, is itself so vast that you can drive for an entire day and not encounter any other human being. However, with over 70 mammal species and 500 bird species, there is no doubt whether you will ever be truly alone in this natural wonder that encompasses grasslands, swamps and woodlands.
The name "Serengeti" derives from a Maasai word meaning "Land without end." This is a land of superlatives, both in the vast landscape that surrounds you and the incredible biodiversity it supports.
It is here on our Tanzania safari tours that you have a chance to witness one of the planet's most compelling natural dramas, where the annual migration of up to 500,000 zebra and 1.5 million wildebeest begins in their perilous, single-minded quest for new water sources and land to graze upon.
Elsewhere and equally memorable within Tanzania is Kilimanjaro National Park, home to the indescribable wonder: Mount Kilimanjaro. Standing at 5,895 metres (19,340 feet) above sea level, Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest peak and the world's tallest, freestanding mountain. This truly is a spectacle that has to be seen to be believed and chances are, it will redefine the words beautiful, awesome, and immense in the minds of travellers.
As with all Tanzania safari tours, and like many of the national parks, Kilimanjaro National Park allows visitors to view some of the most remarkable and exotic animals on the planet. Elephants, hippos, wildebeest, rhinos, monkeys, crocodiles, big cats or birds: you name it; Tanzania has it.
A wildlife sighting not to be missed on our Tanzania safari tours are the famous tree-climbing lions, found at Lake Manyara National Park. Though each national park has its own allure, the Serengeti National Park, often synonymous with safari expeditions, is considered home to more game animals than anywhere else on the planet.
If you had to sum up our Tanzania safari tours in one word, it would be unforgettable.
