Tour Overview

This tour has been designed by, and will be operated by, our partners at Anderson Vacations based in Calgary, Canada.

Anderson Vacations joined the Adventures Abroad family of companies in 2016 after 25+ years of offering quality touring experiences in Canada, Alaska and the South Pacific. Adventures Abroad is delighted and proud to partner with AV in bringing AA travellers, old and new, a range of spectacular North American itineraries--from Eastern Canada, the far north and Alaska, British Columbia, and everywhere in between. The booking process and pre-trip service model remains the same--it's just like booking and travelling on an AA tour, with flights, insurance, one-stop-shopping, and all the consumer protection affiliations that protect your investment. The only difference is that you will be travelling with the fine folks at Anderson and other travellers from around the globe who may or may not have booked their trip through Adventures Abroad. Overall, the concept and philosophy are the same, with some small differences in inclusions and group size as noted under the "Trip Information" tab on this page. If you're looking for an adventure but not necessarily "abroad," let Anderson Vacations show you why they have become an industry leader offering sensational journeys right here in our own back yard.

Day 1 Arrive in Prince Rupert, BC
Welcome to Prince Rupert, the unofficial city of rainbows and the gateway to British Columbia’s dramatic North Coast. Tonight meet the rest of your group for a welcome dinner.

Please note: The hotels indicated in this itinerary are our projected properties at all locations. Due to factors beyond our control, we reserve the right to substitute alternatives of a similar standard.

Please also note that, as an exception to the majority of our tours, airport transfers are NOT pre-arranged and factored into the tour price. This is due to a lack of personnel at the destination available to organize and execute transfers. That said, getting to the hotel is easy and organized, and metered taxis await all arriving passengers.

Overnight: Prestige Prince Rupert Hotel

Included Meal(s): Dinner

Day 2 Prince Rupert - Ferry to Haida Gwaii
This morning we board BC Ferries for our day sailing to the Haida Gwaii. The Haida people have called these islands home for over 10,000 years. The voyage takes us through the Coast Islands, across the Hecate Strait to Skidegate and Haida Gwaii. It is not unheard of for the Captain of the BC Ferry to spot whales when coming into the inlet and announce to the passengers that they can be seen. Be sure to have your binoculars and cameras ready!

Day 3 Masset & Naikoon Provincial Park
A local guide will accompany our group during our stay on the Haida Gwaii. We travel to Masset visiting Naikoon Provincial Park at the Northern end of Graham Island. Day 4 Haida Heritage Centre
Today we visit the new Haida Heritage Centre. This 26 million dollar centre is a series of long houses fronted by six traditional totem poles representing each of the 14 clans and is a celebration of the living culture of the Haida people. Enjoy a full day of events at the centre, celebrating begins with a clan parade followed by a day of activities and cultural celebrations, including storytelling and dance performances.

Seasonality and Weather

July-September is the driest and warmest time of year in the region, with warm days and cool nights with medium humidity. Summer daylight hours are long and maximize sightseeing. This region is notorious for the changeability of weather -- we will hope for fine weather, but wet and stormy conditions can occur at any time. You must be prepared for everything and anything!

Transport and Travel Conditions

Ground transport provided by mid-size touring van/bus.

This is a busy tour, but not strenuous. One must be prepared for some early starts and full sightseeing days. Roads are generally good, but some slow and winding sections should be expected, though our road journeys are not long.

Our ferry crossings are daytime on large stable vessels with plenty of comfortable indoor and outside deck space.

Accommodation

Our preferred hotels are listed in the tour itinerary (we may substitute of a similar quality if necessary); all accommodation is no less than 3-star standard. We always receive great reviews about the hotels’ cleanliness, service, accessibility, and convenience/location.
