As we stand atop Victoria Peak in Hong Kong, we look down at a sprawling city that seems like it would go on forever if it were not for the shores of the Pearl River Delta bringing it to an abrupt end. China is full of these spectacular moments where we have to stand motionless for a few minutes in order to soak in what we're actually looking at, but in no time at all, we will learn that seeing is believing. Such a place as this can easily fill several photo albums and provide stories enough for a lifetime. Not only are there the famous sites to see, such as the Great Wall of China and the Terracotta Warriors, but an adventure in rural China is also on our itinerary. A cruise on the Yangtze River takes us along some of the most stunning landscapes in all of the country and through waters that were known to be treacherous for seafaring pioneers before man-made alternations made for an easier and safer ride. An excursion to the town of Fengdu brings us into contact with ghostly legends that have made themselves known through Chinese literature.

We've traveled with Adventures Abroad before and liked the itinerary of this tour plus the fact that there are no forced shopping excursions. For me the Li River excursion was the highlight of the trip. The scenery was ethereal and the show that followed that evening was something that can't easily be described. The town of Yangshow was charming, as was our hotel. Shanghai was a treat, the Yangste cruise a nice interlude. Guides were very competent and helpful. Smoothed our way through airport check-ins and gave us innumerable insights into what we were seeing. The meals were a very pleasant surprise. Our tour leader put a great deal of care and thought into choosing a wonderful selection of Chinese dishes.

I particularly enjoyed Guilin - Li River cruise and show, Yangtze Cruise, Great Wall of China, Terra Cotta Warriors, the Forbidden city and Zhujiajiao. The local guides spoke excellent English. You can understand them and very knowledgeable about the history of the sites. The tour covers the top attractions in China. Food is very good. Hotels are excellent. Tour leader and local guides are very knowledgeable about the country.

Great trip for seeing China. Felt that I learned many things about the history, culture, and scenery of China. I enjoyed all excursions but most enjoyed the Li River, Yangtze Cruise, canal town near Shanghai, and the Summer Palace in Beijing. Bus transportation was very good and I enjoyed the train. The meals were excellent: a great variety of foods and local restaurants. I thought the hotels were good. They all had air conditioning and staff seemed very helpful in all of them.

The Great Wall was a rewarding "bucket list" experience and both guides provided excellent background and support. The Yangtze and Li River cruises were amazing with great photo ops. The weather was hot and humid but the transportation was well air conditioned. So thanks for getting us to so many great sights in comfort. I enjoyed all excursions as I learned, experienced and captured lifelong memories on each. Really enjoyed the Watertown canals outside Shanghai. The guide was excellent at ordering a variety of authentic foods plus catering to everyone's needs. Kudos for keeping us happy and well fed! The food and beverage was a definite bonus for me. And I usually prefer to order my own entree. Well done!

I have been to China numerous times on business. I wanted this leisure trip to fill in some blanks for me. It did that and more. Our tour leader ensured a smooth and very enjoyable tour. The sights were well chosen; the activity level was appropriate; the accommodations more than met my needs and expectations; the food was outstanding. The tour met all my expectations and more. I have already signed up for my next Adventures Abroad tour.

Our favourite excursions were the evening show "Impressions" near Yangshao. Spectacular and beautiful. Visiting the 100th floor of a building in Shanghai for the view, visit to Beijing's hutongs. All the local guides were very good, and understandable. All the modes of transportation were good. Loved the variety of boats, etc. The meals were all absolutely incredible. Appreciated the fact that we didn't just go to the tourist places. Food was one of the outstanding features of this tour. Our tour leader was one of the best tour guides we have experienced. Very diligent with a wonderful sense of humour. This was a great and varied trip, lead by an entertaining and competent tour leader.

We had the opportunity to taste a myriad of local dishes at some very good restaurants. Our tour leader often brought us to places that served the specialty of the region, always a gastronomic delight.

Seasonality and Weather
China has a great diversity of climates. The northeast has hot and dry summers and bitterly cold winters. The southeast region has substantial rainfall, with semi-tropical summers and cool winters. Our tours in spring and fall occur when temperatures and humidity are relatively low; our May / June trip can expect sticky heat in some locations.
Transport and Travel Conditions
Land transport throughout China will be by private air-conditioned bus. Domestic flights via scheduled Chinese carriers. Yangtze River cruise is rated 4 or 5 star. The program for the Yangtze cruise may vary depending on which cruise ship we have contracted for our tour, though actual sightseeing does not vary much from ship to ship.
The tour is not strenuous though it is busy; you must be steady on your feet and be able to endure some heat and long days. We have numerous walking tours and visit several sites that are LARGE with steps and uneven surfaces.
Porters are available at hotels but you must be able to manage with your baggage at airports.
Hotels used on tour are modern, comfortable, well-located, air-conditioned, 4-star properties with en suite bath / toilet. Single rooms are limited and possibly smaller than twins. Porters are generally available (see 'Inclusions').
