Touching down in Cairo, Egypt's frenetic capital city, we take the opportunity to explore the wealth of attractions in and around the metropolis, such as the Museum of Egyptian antiquities, wherein we find archaeological relices from the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom and Graeco-Roman periods, as well as some of the country's most beloved treasures -- including the world-famous Tutankhamun exhibit. Wandering the cobblestone streets of Cairo, we admire a busy, developing city with a mixture of modern and traditional ways of living and one that holds the titles of largest city in Africa and in the Middle East. From here, it's on to the country's most popular and most famous sights: the breathtaking Great Pyramids and the Sphinx, now considered symbols of the glory and mystery of Egypt and after comprehensive exploration of the area, we head for Aswan, the country's most beautiful urban area, where the river is at its most scenic and where the ambiance is palpably African. Camel trekking through the desert adds to the authenticity of our experience, and then it's time to board our lateen-sailed wooden sailboat, the likes of which have been used in Egypt for centuries, to glide along the mighty Nile, stopping off to view incredible temples built to honour ancient gods and for a donkey ride through the magnificent Valley of the Kings.
