Tour Overview

This one-time only offering will be led by senior Tour Leader Martin Charlton. He invites you to join him on this very special journey:

"Likened to the Serengeti, the Arctic is a wildlife enthusiast's paradise! This adventure provides the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with the Arctic landscape teeming with wildlife. For thousands of years the Inuit have survived and thrived in this environment, and you now have the chance to immerse yourself and discover the Inuit way of life. This one-time departure has matched the ideal locations to visit with the best time of year.

Join me in discovering the beauty and warmth of the Arctic's floe edge wonders. Experience the wide expanse, seemingly endless "big sky" vistas and silence of the Arctic in a relaxed and laid-back format that is free of the constraints associated with larger groups or cruises. By traveling in a small group we are able to truly embrace the Arctic wilderness and enjoy close-up viewing of wildlife, birds, and spectacular scenery. This tour has been designed to allow travellers to spend as much time as possible experiencing the Arctic wildlife, people and landscapes.

During this adventure our expedition experts and experienced Inuit guides will ensure that our experience in one of the world's most captivating places is second to none. This intimate small group adventure leaves group members free to linger and look or, within limits set by the judgment of your guides, alter plans at will. This land-based tour is operated from a luxury safari style tented camp designed to provide you with ultimate comfort and functionality. Inspiration for the camp comes from the traditional camps of the Inuit, polar expeditions, and Africa mobile-tented safaris. After a day out on the land watching wildlife, come back to our camp and enjoy a gourmet meal.

Nestled between the majestic mountains of north Baffin Island and Bylot Island -- Sirmilik National Park, experience the abundant wildlife that congregates along the ice floe edge that only a few have seen. The intent of this trip is to introduce you to the Arctic at the best time of year -- as spring transitions to summer and the abundant wildlife in its most raw and natural setting. At this time of year the Arctic reawakens with blooming exotic purple saxifrage flowers and massive migrations of birds and whales. The spring floe edge is a fascinating eco-system where wildlife thrives. During this time there exists the chance to see pods of narwhal resting only meters from the edge -- their misty breath sparkling in the 24-hour sun. In addition you'll have a good chance of seeing polar bears, a variety of species of seals, an incredible variety of sea birds.

Our senior Inuit guide will explain to us the traditional ways of Inuit life over five days as we embark on a journey of discovery of the arctic, the abundant wildlife and its beauty. There is an Inuit belief that everything in nature is infused with the spirit of life. Walking on the land, breaking icicles off of glaciers, gazing up at thousands of birds at the nearby bird cliffs, and drinking glacier melt-water on day excursion are just a few of the activities that we may enjoy!"
