Our 11-day
adventure through Botswana deep in the African south takes us to one
of the few remaining destinations in the world that can still provide
a 'real' safari tour. Our luxury lodges play a fundamental role in our
appreciation of this natural wonderland and make our wild experience
all the more special. We move about by scheduled flights, from the
starkly beautiful Kalahari, to the beautiful, lush-green reed marshes
of the Okavango Delta. Our visit to the delta perfectly showcases the
winding waterways, palm-covered islands, and lush, lily-covered
lagoons, as well as an incredible array of wildlife. Herds of impala
and tsessebe can be seen at any time of year and wildebeest, buffalo
and zebras typically make an appearance in the dry season. Packs of
lions, cheetahs and wild dogs hunt in the open grassland and immense
numbers of birds frequent the park regularly. Heading to the area
around the Chobe River, we gaze in awe at roaming elephants, learn
about the history of the first inhabitants of the area. After spending
some time at the magnificent Zambian spectacle that is Victoria Falls,
we end our adventure safari in Livingstone.

HIGHLIGHTS
Isolated, wild Kalahari;
The Okavango inland delta;
Remote African wilderness;
Luxury camping under the stars;
Thundering Victoria Falls
WEATHER/SEASONALITY
After Botswana’s hot, wet season (Nov-Mar), during which many animals
bear their young, April brings milder weather and lush, green
landscapes. May-Aug is the dry season, with mild days and cold nights.
Because of the minimal rainfall during this season, the bush turns
golden brown, and animals concentrate around waterholes and rivers.
The Okavango Delta's water level starts to rise during these months.
Sept & Oct are popular times to visit; rainfall is minimal and
temperatures are warmer. The grass in many areas is beaten flat, game
viewing is easier, and animals are well concentrated around major
water sources. Travellers visiting in November can expect some extreme
heat in some locations (35-40 C / 90-100 F).
TRANSPORT & TRAVEL
CONDITIONS
Within parks, specially designed and equipped vehicles offer space,
comfort and maximum pleasure in game viewing. Note that air
conditioning is VERY rare in vehicles in Botswana in general, though
in a dry climate an open window should provide adequate relief. That
said, you must remember that you will be visiting a place in which
heat and dust are a fact of life.
ACCOMMODATION
Tented camps are luxurious and provide a wide range of international
standard amenities and services. Lodges in Chobe and Vic Falls are
very comfortable and with all modern conveniences.
STAFF & SUPPORT
Tour Leader throughout, driver-guide/s, camp support staff.
MEALS & INCLUSIONS
Most meals, bottled water, local beers, tea / coffee at meal times;
all accommodation (some lodges / camps include laundry service),
transport, sightseeing and entrance fees for sites noted as 'visited'
in the detailed itinerary. Gratuities for drivers, local guides,
restaurant staff, porters. Airport transfers.
EXCLUSIONS
Tour Leader gratuities, some lunches, premium wines and liquors,
personal items (ie phone), international (if applicable) air taxes.
Optional trip cancellation insurance. Our post-reservation trip notes
offer further guidance on shopping, weather, packing. |
